Introducing invisible local governance : contribution to the parallel session on traditional structure and local governance

Abstract: This study from Nigeria emphasizes that informal indigenous governance systems are as much structures of local indigenous governance as are traditional rulers. Their invisibility actually makes them effective. Formal and informal linkages exist between these informal institutions and formal ones.
