Political organization in multi-level settings : Mexican and Latin American parties and party systems after decentralization

Abstract: Evidence from Mexico is used to demonstrate that decentralization more resources available locally, thus reshaping the context within which parties organize.The central contention is that a high level of decentralization can undermine the formation of nationalized party systems and cohesive parties.
