Expert advocacy for the marginalised : how and why democratic mediation matters to deepening democracy in the global South

Abstract: Different kinds of democratic mediation are reviewed: mediation as professional advocacy; mediation as representational entrepreneurship; and, mediation as citizenship development. In the last case, the empowerment of communities typically has a mostly positive impact on local governance.
