Social status and the challenges of governance : evidence from low-income housing delivery in South African municipalities

Abstract: This chapter describes a case study of housing delivery in South African municipalities, where constituents’ concerns for their social position are the cause of serious implementation delays. It is part of a dissertation that investigates how citizens’ concerns for social status affect politics.
