Participatory Local Democracy

Abstract: In 2010, a workshop was held in Visby, Sweden, to sum up the insights gained so far and to identify and discuss the key challenges for the coming decade. Among others, local democracy can be seen as a tool for development but also as undermining, paralleling and legitimizing the state.
