The African national congress and local democracy : the role of the ANC branch in Manzini-Mbombela : a report on a research project presented to The Discipline of sociology, School of social sciences, Faculty of humanities, University of the Witwatersrand

Abstract: This paper analyses the effect of the African National Congress (ANC) local organization at branch level on local democracy. Internal party politics, often dominated by elites, have a strong bearing on local elections, since the branch chairperson is often an automatic candidate as a councillor.
