Empowering local people through community-based resource monitoring : a comparison of Brazil and Namibia

Abstract: The psychological, social, economic, and political aspects of local empowerment in wildlife monitoring systems in Brazil and Namibia were assessed. Empowerment was facilitated by the value of natural resources, rights to trade and manage resources, and collaboration by stakeholders.
