Foreign land acquisitions in Africa : an analysis of the impacts of individual land deals on local communities

Abstract: Analysis of foreign land deals on local communities in 6 countries shows that the impact was mostly negative. In most cases local smallholder lost their land, while others lost their grazing areas, all without meaningful compensation. Promised benefits should be made explicit and evaluated.
