India – Focus Group Meeting

India, May 30, 10 participants, Organizer: Institute of Social Sciences
DSCF0662The meeting was a great opportunity to bring together a group of committed scholars and activists to reflect upon some of the critical issues on local government, decentralization and
grassroots democracy. The Focus Group Discussion proved to be  thought provoking.

The participants were all experts in the field of local governance in India with both theoretical and practical knowledge on the issue. The questionnaire  was scientific with a  global perspective. Although the story of local government in India varies significantly from  state to state, it gave us the opportunity to have a fruitful deliberation on the status of India’s local government, critically look at it and visualise the days ahead.

I congratulate The Hunger Project for taking this innovative initiative under the leadership of John Coonrod and UNDEF for supporting it.

– George Mathew, Chairman of the Institute of Social Sciences
