Abstract: Interdisciplinary cooperation was encouraged among foreign PhD students at the Institut für Entwicklungsforschung und Entwicklungspolitik (IEE) in Germany. Two PhD studies dealt with democratization in Zimbabwe and decentralization processes in Benin.
