Women as policy makers : evidence from a randomized policy experiment in India

Abstract: This paper explores the impact of women as policy makers in the Panchayat system in India and finds that women are more likely to be involved in local governance in villages with a reserved Pradhan. Women also tend to work for public goods that are more closely related to women’s concerns.
